Interconnected Realms: An Analysis of Etra’s Cosmological Framework (From the Archives)

Thaddeus Grimblewick, Professor of Conjury at the University of Rhyosk

The cosmology of Etra is a rich tapestry of interconnected demiplanes, leylines, and the ethereal expanse of the aether. As conjuration specialists, it is imperative that we understand the intricate dynamics of this cosmological structure to navigate and manipulate the arcane energies that permeate our world.

Glossary of Terms

Demiplanes:

Demiplanes, independent locales of tangible existence, real space which form the foundational units of Etra’s cosmology. Each possesses unique physical and magical characteristics that distinguish it from every other.

The Aether:

Surrounding each and every demiplane, an ethereal expanse that marks the boundary between tangible reality and the void beyond. The aether appears as a foggy realm where the solidity of the world begins to wane, leading into the ineffable nothingness that lies beyond. This nebulous barrier serves as a protective boundary for the demiplanes, shielding them from the existential void that lurks beyond the edges of Etra’s cosmology.

Leylines:

Interconnecting the demiplanes are leylines, conduits of mystical energy that bind the network of Etra’s domain. These arcane pathways serve as conduits for the flow of magical essence, facilitating travel and communication from connected demiplanes. Leylines play a pivotal role in maintaining the cohesion of clusters (see below) and regulating the flow of arcane energy throughout Etra’s cosmology.

Clusters:

The phenomenon by which demiplanes have a tendency to have coalesced into particularly tight networks. While the demiplanes within a cluster may seem randomly assorted, it has been theorized that these interconnected realms share thematic similarities that bind them together.
